Simply the best. Whether youre new to the I Ching or have used the book as an oracle, an aid to creativity, or a mirror of your subconscious, youll love the clarity of writing, the intuition in the design, and the simplicity of use of this digital I Ching or Yi Jing. The modern, no-nonsense interface delivers new users straight to the basics: you ask a question, the I-Ching answers. For old souls who know the book well this app holds a wealth of features for deeper research. Theres a journal where you can save and search your questions and readings, a notes area where you can record any length of text as context, a lookup library organized by number and trigram. You can recreate any I Ching reading using decimal notation. Original Chinese text included in an alternative selectable library at no additional charge. There are no ads, no subscriptions, no nag screens.

The I Ching software engine emulates precisely the ancient yarrow stalk method, which was slightly more likely to cast yang than yin. A changing yin line is very rare using stalks, but of equal probability to changing yang using coins. The ancient divination method uses stalks rather than coins.

If you prefer to count your own stalks or cast your own coins theres a manual hexagram builder to make your task easier.

The wisdom and philosophy of the ancient Chinese texts blend seamlessly with commentaries that gently mix a dash of modern poetry, a pinch of humor, and cultural grace notes from the worlds of art, music, divination, literature and Human Design to bring you what many daily users have called the very best I-Ching app available.

Among my favourite reviews:

"Of all the versions Ive used, your renderings of the Book of Changes are my heart-felt favorites. They have inspired me, made me laugh and cry and everything in between."

“Pretty profound! This Iching app gave me spot-on advice. Ive never paid for an app before, but I had a strong urge to get this one. Im impressed! Not to sound all new-age but I totally laughed out loud at the reading it gave me, it was like it was sitting here looking over my shoulder and telling me exactly what I needed to know about my grumpy husband. P.S. Grumpy husband called and apologized..."

"Carl Jung would have been happy to have this Yi Jing on his phone - great to use, unfussy, untechy, respectful of the original. The journal feature is great for storing readings and referring back. Well done!"

All of us sometimes need a sympathetic ear and wise guidance, whether its in matters of romance or finance: the I-Ching can become a companion along life’s journey like no other. Its a book that helps you explore questions and, if youre lucky, find answers: Whether you believe its because the book is an oracle or the answers are simply unearthed from your subconscious -- the books true magic lies in its ability to be a helpful guide (sometimes astoundingly so) to all these different forms of curiosity.

Following the tradition of Baynes and countless interpreters of the original texts, Ive written commentaries which borrow words and inspiration from a multitude of sources: Bob Dylan, Lao Tzu, Doctor Who, the Tarot, T.S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, John Lennon, Maya Angelou, the Grateful Dead and Martin Luther King all make appearances. The language, unlike so many translations, makes every attempt to be gender-neutral when its not gender-specific.

I wanted the sparest interface possible. No fake parchment backgrounds, no gimmicky images of bamboo or cartoon sages with oracles and winning lottery numbers. I tried not to imitate materials in the real world, but to let this app be its own thing, at home in its digital divination space.

I strived to create a quiet, reflective, slowed down experience in an environment that normally shouts.

I hope you enjoy using this I-Ching app as much as I enjoy crafting it, improving it, and hearing from people who have found it helpful in their lives.

Pros and cons of I-Ching App of Changes app for iPhone and iPad

I-Ching App of Changes app good for

It needs to save its state when you exit it though. Your reading disappear if not saved. I think an automatic, editable history with favorites would be swell too, instead of the journal thing. Overall, very good!
Simple to use, however rich in its content ! The I-Ching app for immersing yourself in the future proposed by the Book of Changes. Great work Brian !
Ive been a I-Ching fan and "user" since the 1990s. This is the first version outside the Wilhelm book that I really like. Congrats!
IChing is so accurate. Love it. Makes every event more doable because the reading is so good. Thanks, #love #collagenbabe
First off, I have been studying this book since I was a teen...22 years, and it had never let me down. I had always been curious about the yarrow stalks method but its such a laborious effort that I felt the coins way was most convenient. Now I have a chance to try that way because by reading Brians story about how he made his program and the heart he put into it, I could not pass him by. His light shone through in all the darkness around. thank you Brian, kindly.
Please add hexagram numbers when reading the oracle. Also would it be possible to see all moving lines of a hexagram. Thanks for great work.

Some bad moments

Easy to use and clean design. Its worth the 99 cents. Thanks!
Really enjoy this app, the interpretations are great, the layout is good. A history tab would be nice.
First off, this app works like a charm each and every time, but more important, the interpretations are well-written, clear and are spiritual with being overly mystical (no fortune cookie obtuseness here!). Very highly recommended!
The readings are a bit obscure or difficult to understand, but then again that just may be a good thing, allowing the subconscious to find what it will.
Love this app, try youll be glad you did! Smart and elegantly designed by a developer who, by the sounds of the interview he did that I read online somewhere, is very passionate about this subject. Nice work and thanks!
I too read an article by this developer and was compelled to pick up this app. It is as well done on the Apple Watch as it is on the iPhone. Kudos!
